MARCH 18, 2017
In a four-part, 90-minute event, first Chrystene Ells and Berny Hi share their experiences of working with Deaf youth and members of the Regina Deaf community to create Deaf Crows, a beautiful theatre production using puppets, mask, ASL and mime.
As Hearing artists entering the Deaf space, Ells and Hi will also share their understanding, from a Hearing perspective, of Deaf culture and communication, as well as introduce Audism Awareness, to help bridge the Hearing-Deaf gap.
Second will be a brief panel discussion mediated by Prairie Puppet Underground’s Sylvia Ziemann on further ways for Arts to bridge the Hearing and Deaf worlds.
Third, audience members (whether Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Hearing) will have a chance to collaborate on projects focusing on communicating using the body through ASL, ASL Poetry, Mime, Gesture, and Object Manipulation Puppetry through some fun Creative Activities led by Berny, Sylvia and Chrystene.
Fourth, the event will end with a quick showcase of the creative discoveries made during the Activity, and audience feedback.
*Open for all Hearing and DHH participants – an DHH interpreter will be present
